About Joel Smith
Welcome to my new galleries hosted here by Fine Art America. I have always been attracted to "scapes," whether landscapes, waterscapes, animalscapes or peoplescapes. Since the works presented here are produced from my own mind, I call them collectively "Joelscapes."
My inspiration comes from the beauty and fascination I have always had with the natural world, and the living things that inhabit it, including people and their relationship with it. My intent is to convey scenes that provoked an emotional impact with me, or where I could capture the essence of a meaningful moment. I tend toward subjects where I can artistically convey scenes of what is, rather than what should be or might be. For me this is the essence of "being in the moment." I strive for an elevated mindfulness that may enhance a viewers sense of contentment, beauty, and appreciation of life when contemplating my art. What drives my need to continue painting is the endless gratitude I feel about having the privilege to witness and study this world in which we live.
It is my hope that in my works you too will find increased gratitude for the colors, patterns, lights and shadows from a wide variety of scenes. Most of my paintings are composed so as to be attractive on different levels simultaneously. Perhaps you too will find interesting "scapes" among these pages, even if you are just looking for certain colors to match your home decor. Yet, perhaps some of these offerings may give you a sense of contentment, help induce contemplation, or perhaps they offer insight into the realities of your own life. The best way to know is to explore my galleries and discover how these artworks may appeal to you.
